A marvelous new Paris art place to visit is the Giacometti Institute‘s recreation of sculptor Alberto Giacometti’s studio, with exhibits of important works. It‘s in the 14th arrondissement neighborhood where he worked, though this art deco townhouse was the studio and apartment of designer Paul Follot. It’s small, but special.

The studio features Giacometti‘s rough wood desk with brushes and small models. There is an easel, the metal on which he put the clay and a clay model. Also his eye glasses, empty bottles, a cot and a raincoat.

And sculptures he would have been working on.

The apartment had a room where lived with his wife, Annette Arm, a room for his brother, Diego, and a room for sculptures. Now they hold exhibits that change three or four times a year.

Here are some I saw on a visit.

You must reserve for visits, which means there are no crowds. Visits are every  half hour, with guided tours in French twice a week. There is also a tour for families with children at which they can draw.
